Dad's First Day, Let the Destress Begin

Diving Into Vacation

(There were sea turtles just in front of me)

The Black Sand Beaches Felt Wonderful

On a Cliff off of the Scenic Route to Hilo

Exploring Underground Lava Caves

(Spooky and Cool, We needed a flashlight to go deeper into the caves. It was called the Queen's
Bath in Kapolo, Hawaii. Very hard to find, we were the only ones there for a while until a local and his son came in.)

These were filled with Fresh Water from the mountains,

but  just feet away from the beach.

A Sunbathing Sea Turtle we found in a cove,

just outside the Queen's Bath.

(Dad swam with about 5 or 6 sea turtles here)

Swimming in a pond above the Akaka Falls

Dad Relaxing on the Green Sand Beach

(It is green from the Olivine which comes from the nearby volcano)

No, we didn't bring any home. . .that would be wrong because signs posted said don't do it;

even if you are a teacher and can use it in your science unit on volcanos.

A Lava Tube that Opened Up for Some Daring Divers at South Point

(Did you know the southern most tip of the United States is in Ka Lae, Hawaii?

I thought it was Key West.)

Hilarious Pose, I was Trying to Take it When a Wave Splashed Up

This is an old abandoned dock we saw by Punaluu Black Sand Beach

  1. Wow! could you guys swim in the lava tube? it looks so awesome. And were you guys in less touristy areas because all of the pictures you have look like you went exploring and there aren't any people in the background. Also, the sea turtles are so big!!! Did you feed them? Your pictures look awesome!

  2. Yeah, you could swim in them. The water was really cold, since it's fresh water from the mountains. It took a little while to get adjusted, but very fun. I downloaded an app on my phone that had lots of cool places to explore on it that were not too touristy. We wanted to see what locals see. It may have been the time of year too. I hear Hawaii is pretty busy around the holidays, because lots of people like to escape the snow. No, we tried to leave the sea turtles alone because they are so beautiful and we didn't want to hurt them. It was really wonderful to have lots of places to ourselves. When we went hiking on the volcano we only saw two other couples, and they were both going the opposite direction. IT WAS SO FUN!
